Solo trip. NYC-Copenhagen-Ilulissat for over a week, then by boat to Aasiaat, Sisimiut, Nuuk, then plane to Narsarsuaq and return boat to Qaqortoq. Absolutely mindblowing.

ChrisKean1 > Sled dog, Ilulissat. There are many more dogs than people in the town, and though they look cute they are aggressive (I would be too if I were kept chained outdoors in the off season). The sound of hundreds of them howling at mealtimes is not easily forgotten.
ChrisKean1 > Houses, Ilulissat. Almost all houses are prefab, and in primary colors. They are built on solid rock, so the plumbing pipes run aboveground down the hills.
ChrisKean1 > Ilulissat Icefjord. The icefjord is the most productive in the Northern Hemisphere, throwing off enough water in a day to provide New York City's needs for a year, or so I heard. These heavily crenellated, jagged bergs have split from the main glacier and are being pushed along the sea floor toward Disko Bay.
ChrisKean1 > Ilulissat Icefjord. I include this shot for scale, as there is a (very tiny) human figure at the end of the point. I went down there myself, though it is not recommended--when a berg has dragged along the sea floor long enough, its center of gravity shifts and it flips over, sending waves many meters high onto low-lying areas.
ChrisKean1 > Ilulissat Icefjord. The place was spectacular enough on my first day, when it was relatively overcast. But when the sun came out I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. I was happy to have over a week there.

ChrisKean1 > Iceberg, Ilulissat, "night." I took a night tour around the icefjord, returning to town around midnight. The sun in Greenland is relatively low in the sky at any time of day and so good for photos, but at "night" it was breathtaking.
