Overland from Mtwara, Tanzania to Ilha de Mozambique, Lake Malawi and South Luangwa NP, Zambia, then by air back to Tanzania via Livingstone. Great travel experience by pickup truck, bus and train, and some unbeatable wildlife viewing first in South Luangwa and then in Tanzania's Northern Circuit (Tarangire, Ngorongoro and Serengeti). Finished with a week in Zanzibar and Pemba. I bought my first digital camera the day before leaving for this trip, and tried to learn the ropes on the fly.

By boat across the Rovuma River between Tanzania and Mozambique. There was no ferry on the day I arrived at the border, so this was the only way across to Mozambique--it beat swimming.
Dhow, Ilha de Mocambique. Ilha de Mocambique (Mozambique Island), the old Portuguese capital, is a charming town in Northern Mozambique with plenty to see and do (or nothing at all if that's what you want).

Fort of Sao Sebastiao, Ilha de Mocambique
Woman with Musiro, Ilha de Mocambique. This is a beauty and health treatment many local women apply. I have never seen it anywhere else though that doesn't mean much as my experience in the region is pretty limited.

Nayuchi, Malawi, looking toward Mozambique. I took the train to Cuamba and a truck to the Malawi border at Entre Lagos/Nayuchi. The train from there to Liwonde was very pleasant except for the coal soot flooding through the open windows halfway through the trip.
