WorldTravel > ChrisKean1  > Africa > Upper Egypt, December 2005-January 2006
From Cairo, K and I took a night train to Luxor to spend most of our week seeing sights in the area. We had both always wanted to go to Egypt, and the sights of Luxor did not disappoint; Egypt is one of the places we most want to return to. From Luxor we made our way down to Aswan and immediately to Abu Simbel for our last night before K returned to work and I went on to Sudan.

ChrisKean1 > Ramesseum (mortuary temple of Ramses II), Luxor. Luxor (from the Arabic for "the Palaces") is what remains of the great capital of Upper Egypt, Thebes. As at Memphis near modern Cairo, on the right bank of the Nile was the city, and on the left bank the Necropolis.

ChrisKean1 > Entryway detail, "small temple," Medinat Habu (mortuary temple of Ramses III), Luxor. The main temple here is one of the more spectacular structures I've ever seen, and certainly my favorite in Egypt. It seems to get fewer visitors than some of the others in the area, for reasons I can't fathom.
